I've been doing some serious thinking about the concept of “screenwashing.” Let's break it down a bit, shall we?
I mean, think about it. We live in a world where everything's on a screen. Work, family calls, hobbies, everything. It's like our lives are playing out on this digital stage, and we're just along for the ride.
But what's really been bugging me is how everything that pops up on that screen feels normal, even when it shouldn't. It's like we've stopped seeing what's actually there and just accept it because it's on the screen.
Take something like porn, for example. Now, I'm not here to preach about whether it's good or bad, but have you ever stopped to think about what it actually is? We watch it on the same screen where we watch educational videos or have Zoom calls with family. And somehow, that makes it feel okay, like it's just another thing on the screen.
But it's not just another thing. It's something specific, something real, and something with actual impact. And I'm starting to realize that this screenwashing thing is making us blind to that reality.
It's not just porn, either. It's other stuff too, like how we're treating people in the online world, like commodities to be bought and sold. It all feels so abstract and unreal, but it's not. It's happening, and we're part of it.
So here's what I'm getting at: We need to wake up. We need to see what's really happening on those screens and understand what it's doing to us. We can't just numb ourselves and accept everything as normal because it's on a screen.
We need to ask ourselves, what are we really consuming? What are we allowing into our minds? Is it affecting us in ways we don't even see? These are tough questions, but they're important ones.
For me, this has been a wake-up call. I'm taking a hard look at what I'm consuming and being mindful of how it's shaping me. Screenwashing is real, and it's something we all need to be aware of.
It's time to see the screen for what it is, not just a neutral platform, but a powerful tool that can shape us in ways we may not even realize.
