Reflecting back on my journey, I've realized that I've spent over 30 years alive, with five to six of those years dedicated to trying to figure out how I can make an impact on this world. It took me forever to find the right words to describe what I'm trying to build, caught up in the minutiae of legal entities and the nuances of startups. But it’s finally become clear thanks to conversations with friends in Zanzibar what I passionately want to help cultivate.
What I envision is a regenerative superorganism, an entity that isn't confined to the constraints of a startup, but rather something more profound. I see myself cultivating and expanding this superorganism, regardless of where my professional career may lie.
The idea is to build a network of people who have chosen to opt into a relationship with one another, sharing information, and coordinating for a greater good. This superorganism aims to regenerate our planet, fostering our natural ecosystems and supporting human flourishing.
Success can be measured in many ways, for instance, growing biodiversity in regions affected by the superorganism's influence. Others might want to see a regeneration of our democracies, leading to healthier and more responsive electoral systems.
In the past, I found myself opposed to various entities, be it political parties or entire countries. I've been swept up in the tide of geopolitical warfare, often more focused on taking down something rather than nurturing alliances with value-aligned individuals.
I've realized now that my energy is better spent on building the new, and regenerating that which matters, rather than opposing what I think the world needs less of. This focus on regenerative efforts includes our natural ecosystems, our oceans and rainforests, our rich soil that spans the globe, our democracies, and our relationships with ourselves and others. These are the things that matter, things worth coordinating for rather than simply fighting against.
Certainly, there will be obstacles to overcome, and the superorganism will need to garner political power across many jurisdictions, even globally. However, the focus shouldn't be antagonistic but constructive, with energy stemming from a place of love, not fear.
To create a superorganism fueled by love is undoubtedly challenging. However, in my mind, it's the only thing worth building.
It's a complex task to reject fear and encourage a more love-based collective existence. But, it's the only way forward, a necessary step towards fostering a healthier, more regenerative world.
