I've been reflecting lately about a type of superhero I've been recognizing, and these aren't your typical cape-wearing, building-leaping types. These are real people who are out there, taking note of and assembling all sorts of other real-life superheroes of different kinds, and the various technologies we need to create a sustainable, regenerative society - what I like to call "Civilization 2.0".
I call these folks "Ark Builders". They're akin to the biblical Noah, recognizing and gathering the essentials needed for life to persist and thrive after a metaphorical flood, or rather, in our case, to prevent such a flood from happening in the first place.
Now, you might be asking, "Why do we need these modern Noahs?" And that's a fair question. Here's why: they help us make sense of our world. They help us understand what's necessary for creating a system that's not just better, but a whole level up from what we have now - a system that doesn't degrade but regenerates. They are the ones who give us hope for a brighter future. Seeing the work of these Ark Builders, knowing about the people and the cutting-edge technologies they're gathering, can inspire and motivate us to want to live and contribute to building that better future.
I also believe that these Ark Builders can serve as a natural recruiting pipeline for the visionaries of tomorrow. As we start to see more success stories from these Ark Builders, I believe they'll attract talented individuals who aren't content with working for the likes of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, or heaven forbid, oil companies or pharmaceutical corporations. Instead, these individuals want to dedicate their time to startups that are laying the foundation for a regenerative civilization.
It's like Noah bringing the elephants, giraffes, and all manner of sea life onto his Ark. What's the modern equivalent of those creatures? What's needed for Civilization 2.0? I'm excited to find out.
In closing, I want to express my admiration and support for all the Ark Builders out there, both those I know and those I've yet to meet. I sincerely hope that they can all come together, build the Ark we need for the future, and inspire the world to join them in this vital endeavor.
