Right now in December 2023, I’m surrounded by a group of brilliant individuals who constantly feed me with thought-provoking ideas. Yet despite this, the allure of broadcasting my thoughts to a wider, more public audience on platforms like X or Substack is completely uninteresting to me.
My focus is no longer on seeking validation or admiration from the masses. It's not about garnering likes or retweets to affirm that 'Gary's smart' or 'Gary's a thought leader.' Instead, my energy is directed toward something far more consequential: making impactful decisions with the new team I am committed to building a movement with.
I’m really interested in cultivating something like an internal, close-knit sense-making network.
When I say ‘network’ I don’t mean an app like X, but rather a culture and set of dedicated communication channels for generating shared understanding and coherence. Spaces where we, as a team and tight-knit community, delve into what's happening in the world, explore opportunities, share concerns, and, most importantly, align on our actions and thoughts.
I want to help craft an environment where we can share braindumps, iterate on them without fear/shame, and ultimately get on the same page on how to move forward 🙂
This is where I see the real value of publishing my thoughts; Not in the public square for validation or followers, but within a private, intentional environment just for my colleagues and trusted allies.
